Shriya Saran was born in Haridwar on 11th September 1982 to parents Pushpendra Saran Bhatnagar and Neeraja Saran Bhatnagar. Her father was working under Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd while her mother was a teacher under the Chemistry Department at Delhi Public School, Ranipur and Delhi Public School, Matharu Road, respectively. Her elder brother Abhiroop Saran works in FCB Ulka Advertising Ltd. Mumbai.
Apart from acting, Saran is also a talented dancer. She was trained by her mother in Rajasthani folk dance and Kathak. Later she trained under Shovana Narayan to learn Kathak dance. Together they incorporated social issues along with the dance routine.
