When seasons change, and especially in spring and autumn, our bodies sense the difference of energies and vibrations, and reactions like weakness, headaches, and low-energy levels become the highlights of every day. While gentle exercises like yoga or pilates are always a good way of restoring, I also rely on homemade energy drinks to put me back on track.

There are different ways in which ingredients boost our energy. Potassium loaded ones, like coconut or bananas, support the chemical reactions in the cell membrane and regulate the nerve signal transmission. The natural sugars and fiber in different berries (red currants, goji, blueberries, blackberries) release the energy throughout the whole day and sustain a healthy function of the digestive system.

And then there’s the incredible matcha powder, made from green tea leaves, which contains caffeine and L-Theanine, both with energy-boosting effects. The great thing about matcha powder is the presence of an amino acid that slows the release of theanine and caffeine, giving you energy for a long time over the course of the day.

3 HOMEMADE ENERGY DRINK RECIPES

You can play with these ingredients in the morning when you make your juice or smoothie. I like to have matcha-loaded water before my workout or jogging session. I take a berry-infused smoothie with me when I know there’s a rough day ahead, and a brightly colored citrus-coconut drink cheers me up when I wake up in a bad mood.

If your energy dips in the afternoon, ask yourself how much water you’ve had over the course of the day. Oftentimes when we’re sluggish (or hungry or crabby or headachy), we’re actually dehydrated.

Try one of these easy energy drinks in the afternoon instead of hitting the vending machine for a Diet Coke or having your second (or third) cup of coffee. Each of these has magical powers when it comes to balancing your mood, healing your headaches, nourishing your cells and boosting your energy.
